Is Staying at a Disney Resort Worth It? The Perks of Staying On-Site

October 25, 2026 · 5 min read

Off-site hotels can be cheaper per night, but Disney resort guests get perks that can save time, money, and stress — especially on a short trip or at a busy time of year. Here’s what staying on-site really gets you.

Early Theme Park Entry

Every day of your stay, Disney resort guests can enter any theme park 30 minutes before it opens to everyone else. That’s often enough time to ride one or two of the most popular attractions with short waits.

Extended Evening Hours (Deluxe resorts)

Guests at Deluxe resorts and Deluxe Villas get extra time in a select park after it closes on certain nights — with much shorter lines than during the day.

Earlier booking windows

  • Dining: resort guests can book up to 10 days of their stay starting 60 days before check-in.
  • Lightning Lane: resort guests can book up to 7 days before check-in, versus 3 days for everyone else.

Getting around

Disney buses, the monorail, the Disney Skyliner, and boats connect the resorts to the parks and Disney Springs at no extra cost, so you may not need a rental car. Some resorts are even within walking distance of a park.

The little things

  • Theming and atmosphere you won’t find at an off-site hotel.
  • Resort pools, activities, and movies under the stars.
  • Charge purchases to your room with your MagicBand or phone.

Making it affordable

The perks are the same whether you stay at a Value resort or a Deluxe one (except Extended Evening Hours), so a Value resort is the cheapest way in. Watch for room discounts, be flexible on dates, and set an alert on MouseSeek to grab a sold-out or discounted room the moment it opens up.
